Review: **+ Chez Ray Pinot Noir, Carneros, Sonoma County, California, 2007

Review: P7 (2007 Carneros Pinot Noir, UCD18, Sonoma, CA)

Now seven years from vintage date, this is light red/brick in the glass.  At room temperature, the nose is showing soggy fruit, with a touch of broccoli.  Not auspicious.  The palate is a bit more accommodating, with fruit that is admittedly tired, but which brings some bright blackberry too.

Wouldn't find my way back to this one, but it remains drinkable with a bright tanginess.  That means two plus stars on the Spirit of Wine scale.

Here are our much earlier notes:

P7 (2007 Carneros Pinot Noir, UCD18, Sonoma, CA): Ray: color, light pink; aroma, deep, musky, some oxidation; flavor, tangy and  bright with some must; 2+ for layers.  Jim: flavor, light fruit; 2.  Eric: aroma, fairly strong smell; flavor, sharp and acidic, slightly metallic; 3.  Rob: color, pinkish red; aroma, very light alcohol; flavor, very tannic, strong alcohol; 2.
