Review: ***+ Chez Ray Rodger's Vineyard Syrah, Mendocino CA, 2008

By way of background:  This is Chez Ray Rodger's Vineyard Syrah, Mendocino CA, 2008, made with a blend of yeasts (SR8).  Grapes, yeast and process are described here.

Original notes, five years from vintage date, October, 2013:

In the glass: Muddy magenta, opaque in the very center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature without a decant and swirled vigorously, shows a soft, floral, fruited and oaky nose.

On the palate: The first element on the palate is full and round fleshy red and black fruit, with definite oak overtones.  Black aromatic violets surround the sip, which brings bold acids into your cheeks, lighting up the black robed experience.  Soft fruit trickles out from your cheeks, which have been lodged with bright acids holding sweet fruit.

In summary: Overall, a strong bold deep red experience, generating three stars with a big plus on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
