"Pressed" into service...

The 2007 Chez Ray is pressed!! (Thanks, Rob, for the perfect title for this post and the video.)

And thanks to Griff, Rob, Eric, Karen and Linda for the superlative help with pressing the Chez Ray red grapes from the 2007 vintage. They have been macerating (the grapes, not the people) since fermentation began 8 weeks ago. (Yes, the people have been fermenting longer.)

Two and half hours of heavy labor were complemented by Karen's wonderful lunch - and outstanding banter all day - to make the loads seem light.










And unlike Tom Sawyer's escapade in enticing his colleagues to whitewash the famous fence, here we were able to drink the paint as we worked! (Or to be more correct, drink the cabernet sauvignon, syrah, zin, merlot, pinot noir and petite sirah). So that lightened the load too!






Now, it's on to siphoning, oaking and racking the 2007 vintage over the next year or so. A prerequisite to that is bottling the 2006 vintage; we still need to make space in the currently-filled glass carboys.
